The Year 2021-22 gave us many films, which were rich in unique storytelling. In 2021 owing to Covid restrictions a lot of movies were released on OTT. The nomination list was created based on both OTT and theatrical releases.

IFTA is India’s 1st people’s Choice Awards, with an aim to acknowledge and acclaim the versatile talent in the Indian Film, Television, OTT and Music industries.

Team IFTAbelieves that there is no better judge than the audience. So IFTA gave the voting rights to the ultimate consumers of the content – the viewers. There is no jury or panel involved in making the decision for the winner.

IFTA has a dedicated market research team that works diligently to find the potential list of nominees who then compete to win the particular category. Spread across various categories, the IFTA market research team makes nomination lists based on primary & secondary market research and analysis. These lists are then made public for the audience to vote. The Nominee getting the highest number of votes wins that particular award category.

About the Award Category

The category of the Most Popular Bollywood Film will be awarded to that one film that changed the dynamic of the movie viewing experience. Only that film will win that resonated with the viewers the most.

And the Most Popular Bollywood film is….

Indian films have mastered war films, especially the ones that revolve around the Indian army. The film which won the award is also inspired by the life of one such army officer, whose line “Yeh Dil Maange More” can best be used to describe the hangover that this film left on the audience. The winner of Most Popular Bollywood Film is Shershaah that got 5201 public votes. The life of Vikram Batra was a memorable one and so was Siddharth Malhotra in the film. This Vishnu Vardhan directorial film got extremely popular for its storytelling, songs, and wholesome movie experience.

With 728 votes, Mimi ranked second on the list. The tale of a surrogate mother kept the viewers hooked and it was one of the best performance of Kriti Sanon career, which ultimately led the film to become a deserving runner-up. At number three, It is Rohit Shetty’s cop-universe flick Sooryavanshi. The film was a wholesome entertainer with signature Rohit Shetty direction, that made people, to come out of their houses after covid restrictions.

Some Honourable Mentions

Number four is Shoojit Sircar’s best directorial film to date, Sardar Udham. The last act of this film is cinematically very strong especially the scenes involving Jaliawala Bagh massacre. The film showcases some of the best picturised, designed and well performed scenes in the last forty five minutes.
