It is not always important that a film has to be mounted on a huge budget to introduce a new face. A prime example of that can be found in the form of Vicky Kaushal who made his debut in Masaan. The film still holds a very special place in the heart of the audiences.
IFTA believes in uplifting and applauding the talent and It was this vision that led to the inception of India’s 1st People’s Choice Awards. The aim is to spot and award talents from the world of Film, Television, OTT and music industries.
With a market research team working diligently to understand the taste of the viewers, IFTA becomes rock solid in understanding what the public wants. This time around the IFTA will be presented to the most popular Bollywood Female Debut in 2021-22.
The research team at IFTA creates a list of potential contenders based on audience viewership. The list is then sent out in the public domain for the viewers to vote. It is that simple – no jury, no panel, no dance performances, no drama, IFTA believes the public is the best judge as they are the ultimate consumers of any content.
What makes a Debut special
It is not always important that a film has to be mounted on a huge budget to introduce a new face. A prime example of that can be found in the form of Vicky Kaushal who made his debut in Masaan. The film still holds a very special place in the heart of the audiences.
Good work can never be ignored and the ladies who didn’t miss a single dart in delivering power-packed performances in 2021-22 deserve appreciation.
Make way for the Rising Star, and the Winner is…….
The result is so pathbreaking, let us come to that in a bit. But blow the trumpet for the Bollywood Best Debut in 2021-22 first. The winner is Chum Darang for Badhaai Do. With 4293 public votes, Chum managed to make an impact with her pitch-perfect portrayal.
The result is path breaking because it opens doors for inclusivity. Those who have watched Badhaai Do know that Chum Darang played a lesbian character in that film. The biggest takeaway moment has to be the intimate scene between her and Bhumi Pednekar during a blood test. This win clearly shows that people are becoming more receptive toward LGBTQA+ and are definitely leaving behind homophobia.
Some Honourable mentions
On number 2 is Mahima Makwana for Antim. With 1039 votes Mahima surely left a lasting impact on her viewers. Mahima has had a long body of work in television and that love translated to the big screen as well. In the third position, it’s Krystle D’Souza for Chehre. In a film filled with stars like Amitabh Bachchan, and Emraan Hashmi, it is pretty hard to make room for your performance to shine, but Krystle left no stone unturned in getting her due credit.
Team IFTA congratulate the winners and appreciate the audience for supporting them and taking the time to vote.
IFTA hopes to see you again next year with the latest nominations and new results. Do let us know if there are any suggestions and share your feedback with us.
